Raindrops on Roses, 8x6 Oil on Canvas

Just saw "Sound of Music" on TV and while I was painting my rose, These Are a Few of My Favorite Things was running through my head...raindrops on roses...etc. This is worse than the day "Ding Dong the Witch is Dead' got stuck in there. You wouldn't want to see that painting.

We had a great Pieces of 8 Holiday Sale last Saturday. It was very festive and a good time was had by all. Thanks to all who stopped by and made it such a wonderful day!

Waterlily, 7x5 Oil on Canvas

I've been posting vistas, so here's a change of pace--a closeup of a waterlily. I do quite a variety of subjects, but I do seem to lean toward landscapes and seascapes. Every now and then it's good to get a bit closer in. This is a redo of a painting I did years ago and I just like the dramatic value contrasts.

I am mining the gorgeous blooms at Brookgreen Gardens, South Carolina for floral daily paintings. Sometimes I think I'd like to be locked away to just paint for days with a "Do Not Disturb" sign on the door. It worked for Rembrandt, at least artistically, but he forgot to pay the bills. That was unfortunate, because he was quite the consumer.

This is entered in the Daily Paintworks Rectangle Challenge. Every stroke is a rectangle, and it was a good exercise for me. I need to do more rectangle paintings. And speaking of challenges, I also made this a jigsaw puzzle. Click here to see if you can solve it!

My heart goes out to artist Carol Marine, who has lost everything in the Texas wildfires. A close family friend, Jennifer, has organized a fund to immediately assist Carol & David. There is so much loss from disasters this year, it is heartbreaking.
