Blue Funk, 5x7 Acrylic Abstract on Canvas Board

I see this as coming out of the blues into the light. This is an experimental work, using a stamp, pouring,   painting, and spattering. In other words, it was a lot of fun. Daily Painter Karen Margulis calls it a "detour" in her blog this week. It's good for the artistic soul every now and then.

Artsy Shoes

Been in a blue funk lately and decided not to pick up my paint brush this week. The idea for decoupaging my shoes has been simmering for a while, so yesterday I did a little torn-paper therapy.

Ocean Shadow, 18x24 Oil on Canvas

It amazes me that the colors of the ocean are different every day. Sometimes this same view is quite turquoise, but that would be on a calm and sunny day. Other times the sunrises are so vibrant that it's no use to paint them as they really look--they just don't look real.

All streams run to the sea, but the sea is not full; to the place where the the streams flow, there they flow again.

Ocean View, 5x7 Oil on Canvas

Every now and then it's time to paint a seascape. This one is small, but I am working on a large one for an exhibit in November. I just love the motion of the ocean.

Humble Sunflower, 7x5, Oil on Canvas Board

I can't grow a vegetable to save my life, but flowers are another story. My yard is in bloom, and I really should record that in paint. You won't see any paintings of my pathetic bean plants that won't even produce one serving. Can't complain about my lettuce, though. I guess anyone can grow lettuce. Here are some of my flowers:

Girl in the Butterfly Garden, 8x10 Oil on Canvas Panel

How much fun is a butterfly garden? This one had every color of butterfly, including green. The girl's pose really struck me, it is so typical of a young girl.
The dreaded political ad season is upon us and I am disgusted already. I would like to refer politicians (especially those who claim to be saintly) to Proverbs 6:16-19:

There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to him:

haughty eyes,
a lying tongue,
hands that shed innocent blood,
a heart that devises wicked schemes,
feet that are quick to rush into evil,
a false witness who pours out lies
and a man who stirs up dissension among brothers.

Suzanne, 8x12 Graphite Drawing

I took this one right off my wall, since I haven't had time to paint anything new this week. This is a graphite drawing of my youngest daughter Suzanne. Not for sale, of course.

Waterlilies, 5x7 Oil on Canvas

I try so hard to loosen up, but it's difficult. I don't know why. I do like to leave a little for the viewer to have to mentally put together, but to achieve that  I need someone to hit me over the head to make me stop at a certain point.
