Art Show in Middleburg

I am back from my show in Middleburg, Virginia, and I am happy to report that it was a very successful show. The venue was beautiful, thanks to my sister Genie, and I met so many lovely people. Sales were brisk and the food was delicious. What more could any artist ask?

The painting below was a favorite; I could have sold it three times, and by the time I got home I had a request for it from an online collector. I see that I need to paint more cows.

Now to finish all the paperwork so I can get back to painting!

Garlic, 5x7 Oil on Wood Panel, Still Life

If I wrote a song about my favorite things, garlic would be near the top of the list. It must be my Mediterranean blood. It's healthy too, which I tell myself when eating delicious garlic knots at my favorite Italian restaurant. I like painting garlic and onions, because they are so layered and interesting.

Florida Road, 8x6 Oil on Canvas Panel, Landscape

When I was a kid we used to walk down roads like this: white sand meandering through woods. This road goes through a garden and it has that bright hot look from the Florida sun. This is a signed original, 6x8, painted on archival canvas, signed and ready to frame.

If all goes well, I am preparing for my show tonight (I scheduled this post in advance). If you live anywhere near Middleburg, Virginia, please stop by.

Red Grapes, 5x7 Still Life Oil on Panel

This Spring weather just makes me want to be outside. I think it's time for some plein air painting. We don't have a very extreme "change of season" here in Florida, but my yard certainly comes to life. I have one Frangipani tree with leaves and no blooms, and a huge one with blooms and no leaves. Very odd.

Been thinking of new challenges for the Pieces of 8 painting group. How about ten-minute plein air paintings? That sounds hard. Just what we need!

Ten-Minute Paintings, 5x7 Oil on Panel Still Life

I've been doing lots of practice paintings to loosen up; first, 30-minute ones, then ten-minute ones. As I previously mentioned, my painting group did ten-minute exercises the last time we met, and it was a lot of fun.

I also did a yellow pear, and I'm not showing that one. Ick. It was, however, delicious.

Tahiti Beach, 8x6 Oil on Canvas Panel, Elbow Cay, Abacos Islands Seascape

For Sale on Etsy

This is the place of my dreams. The water is pristine and clear, the sand is sparkling white, and the sky is blue. Stress is a thing of the past when you are in a place like this. It's beautiful Tahiti Beach, not in the Pacific, but on Elbow Cay in the Abacos Islands, Bahamas. There is no traffic because there are no cars. A golf cart suffices. One of my favorite places ever. Drop me off with my paints for a month or so.

Yellow Posies, 5x7 Oil on Panel, Floral Still Life

During a previous meeting of the Pieces of 8 painting group I challenged everyone to do a painting in 30 minutes. This week I challenged them to do one in only ten minutes. We put flowers, fruit, and an onion on a table and we each painted one object in ten minutes. Then we turned the table so we each had a different vantage point and did it again. We did five paintings this way, and it was wonderful practice in so many ways. This was my first painting, and my best one.

Castaway, 8x10 Original Oil on Canvas Panel Beach Painting

This was a lovely day painting outdoors with our painting group. Someone on Facebook calls this experience the "Plein Air High," and I have to agree. We topped it off with a delicious picnic lunch, most of which was provided by Kathy, who always thinks of everything. It didn't hurt that the weather was perfect!
