I know my friend the musical genius Bobby Braddock counted every one of those clucks to be sure I got it right.

This rooster has a mighty fancy tail. This is a docile rooster, unlike the one on my grandchildren's farm in Pennsylvania. Their rooster used to attack them. They would drive up and he'd be outside the car, jumping up and down gnashing his vicious little beak. He didn't last.

Chickens are fun to paint. There is something comical about the way they strut around, not unlike the way some people walk. It's nice that the one in back buried its head in the straw so that our attention is drawn to the more colorful lady in front. I'm very pleased with the way this one turned out.

The Pieces of 8 were on Grandfather Mountain, scattered about painting, and I saw Mary at the top of the path painting a big view. Since I enjoy dappled light it I was more excited about painting the path leading to Mary. It was such a beautiful spot.

Hurricanes always bring some nice waves, and this was a family visiting the beach just before Isaac passed by Florida. The child is thinking, "That's scary," Mom is thinking, "That's dangerous," and Dad is thinking, "I wish I'd brought my board."

Sometimes I don't see certain things until I have posted them. In this case, I have to laugh because I notice that the rocks that are just below the surface in the river look a bit like a body. I don't suppose that's a selling point...or is it?

I am looking at the work I have scheduled to upload in the next week or so, and it looks like I dabble in everything. My previous post was collage, this one is an impressionistic oil, coming next are a watercolor, an abstract, then a 16x20 landscape. All that's lacking is one of my cartoons. Hmmm...there's an idea.

My friend Donna was visiting England during a commemoration of the Blitz, those terrible times when the country was under attack. People in Haworth, England dressed in 1940s clothing and had a big celebration. It looked very authentic, since the village has not changed much in appearance since long before 1940, which is one of the things I love about England.

 I always reach a point in a collage where I think, "Is this going to work?" I was having trouble with the wings until I found some pink Gerbera daisies that worked just right.

I had been wanting to paint these little goats for a while and the Daily Challenge just spurred me on. I love their intent looks, as though they may be thinking, "That camera looks very tasty."

Plain petals make you want to paint them fancier, then the painting doesn't work. I had to control my nitpicking self to stay simple. I like the result. I made the petals plain and the title fancy. I thought just saying "Red Flowers" was pretty boring.

It would seem that Winter was missing this year, but I'll bet Summer will come on with some scorching heat. How bizarre that our country had tornadoes, floods, snow, record heat and earthquakes all in a couple of weeks. Pretty soon insurance premiums will be as high everywhere as they are in Florida, where we have not had a hurricane in years, but are still paying through the nose for the last one. But don't get me started...

Anyway, this little cardinal just puts me in a Spring Fever kind of mood, which caused me to dash outside and do yard work.

I love books, so I don't know why I don't paint them more often. They are good still life subjects. The apple and strawberry are all snuggled up, aren't they?

I'm so dull-witted today that I can't think of a clever title for this. I'm wondering if the ringing in my ears constitutes "white noise?" Anyway, I loved painting these radishes. They have so much color and personality. Look at that hairdo.

Apparently I'm in my Blue Period, having painted a blue frog, a blue birdie, and now this. I was in Larry Moore's plein air workshop and we were at Ballard Park yesterday, a gorgeous location on the water in Melbourne, Florida. Well, what a day! There was a regatta of little sailboats as well as a pirate ship. Out of the pirate ship came--what else? a pirate, in full regalia. Larry immediately began painting a portrait of him, and it was wonderful. Oh, and the pirate had--what else? a parrot. You never know what you'll see around here.
