I feel very good about finally getting something out of the evening I spent at the Loveless Cafe, trying to get a table. It just wasn't going to happen, as we realized when a busload of people was unloaded and paraded in before us. We gave up for the night and had breakfast there the next morning. We can't leave Nashville without our Loveless Cafe ritual. The place has been there since the 50s, and is attached to a funky old motel that now has shops in its rooms. The Loveless is known for its biscuits and jams. Yum.

Kids Will Be Kids, 7x5 Original Oil on Canvas Daily Painting
I entered this in the DailyPaintworks Daily Challenge, "The Up Close Animal Challenge."
I had been wanting to paint these little goats for a while and the Daily Challenge just spurred me on. I love their intent looks, as though they may be thinking, "That camera looks very tasty."

Fleurs Carmin, 7x5 Oil on Canvas Board Daily Painting
Plain petals make you want to paint them fancier, then the painting doesn't work. I had to control my nitpicking self to stay simple. I like the result. I made the petals plain and the title fancy. I thought just saying "Red Flowers" was pretty boring.

Just a Little Pear, 4x4 Daily Painting
This is a perfect companion piece to my painting, "Just a Little Apple." I had such fun painting these loose little daily paintings.
Below is the sight from my front yard this morning as Space Shuttle Discovery flew by on top of a jumbo jet, on its way to Washington DC. My camera battery chose that moment to die, so I used my iPad. It's an emotional goodbye for the Space Coast.

Just a Little Apple, 4x4 Oil on Canvas
I felt like doing something loosey goosey, and this satisfied the urge. An apple is always a good lesson. I should do this with a lemon, as lemons are my nemesis. Or is it nemeses?

Christmas Palm, 12x12 Oil on Canvas
Christmas Palms are so beautiful. I see a lot of them in public landscapes, but there are never any berries. I guess they are considered too messy and get trimmed off. In Elbow Cay in the Bahamas I saw a lot of them left on the trees and it gave such a lovely touch to the landscape. What other palms have such a striking fruit?

Hunger Games, 6x8 Oil on Canvas Board
This little confrontation inspired the title. It is very sad to me that the latest entertainment is the movie of the same name that is about children killing children. Kids are already growing up desensitized to human suffering because of movies, television and, worst of all, video games where they can do the killing. What are we coming to? I visited the Coliseum in Rome, where long ago, Roman citizens were prosperous and had too much free time, so were kept entertained by animals killing each other, gladiators killing each other, and animals killing people. Fifty to sixty thousand people enjoyed this spectacle every day.
Are we that much more civilized because we watch "pretend" horror and bloodshed? Wonder what the next shock will be?
