My Sedona Journal

We just returned from a vacation in Sedona, Arizona, and I must say it was a drastic change of scenery. It is a magical place, and I don't mean the vortexes. Its beauty is rather overwhelming at times, and neither paint nor photos can do it justice. We had a hair-raising Pink Jeep Tour (I highly recommend it) that took us on top of the red rocks and gave us a scare almost as good as whitewater rafting. The views were astonishing. Watching the sunset is a sport there. Everything about it is different from our  home state of Florida, except Prickly Pears. Those things must be everywhere, and in Sedona they eat them. I can't imagine anything more painful than being a Prickly Pear Picker.

My next post will be original art, I promise. Of the red rocks of Sedona, of course.

Nashville Cats, 8x6

After the Pieces of 8 art retreat in the Smokies, my husband picked me up and we drove across Tennessee to Nashville, where we visited with my granddaughter who is attending Vanderbilt, my niece and her family, and my songwriter friend Bobby Braddock and his family. Bobby wrote the country hits "He Stopped Loving Her Today, Time Marches On, and more recently, "People Are Crazy," as well as many others.

On the way to Nashville we stopped to see friends who told this story: their daughter was teaching a Sunday School class of little tots and she asked if anyone wanted to lead the prayer. A little boy volunteered. He bowed his head and reverently prayed: "God is great, beer is good, people are crazy."

I enjoyed sharing that with the writer of the song.

This painting is of Broadway in Nashville, with historic Tootsie's Orchid Lounge prominently featured. You have to love a city where guys walk around with guitars and music is everywhere. This one didn't qualify as a "daily painting," it was too complicated and took two days to complete.

Like An iPhone Cowboy, 6x8

Number 12 in my series, On a Cellular Level.

My title is a play on the words "Like a Rhinestone Cowboy," by Glen Campbell. I just heard that he has Alzheimer's and this is a little tribute to him. My subject here was in the mountains of North Carolina. There is just no such thing as "getting away" any more.
