Cathedral Rock, 20x20 Oil

After what I went through to get this scene, I thought it deserved a bigger painting, so this one is 20x20 on stretched canvas. My husband and I went to a park, looking for this view of beautiful Cathedral Rock. We turned the wrong way and hiked and hiked, but that was a treat, because it was a beautiful path along the river. We came upon a forest of cairns that people had built of stacked stones--hundreds of them. We finally found the above scene 100 yards from our car after we hiked back. This is a much-photographed Sedona spot, and you can see why.

Just Before Sunset, 5x7 Oil on Canvas Panel

This is my first attempt at a Sedona scene. We were waiting for sunset, and the light was just getting to that stage that's hard to capture. I will soon paint a sunset, but it won't be believable. They are just too fantastic-looking, just like Florida sunsets.

My Sedona Journal

We just returned from a vacation in Sedona, Arizona, and I must say it was a drastic change of scenery. It is a magical place, and I don't mean the vortexes. Its beauty is rather overwhelming at times, and neither paint nor photos can do it justice. We had a hair-raising Pink Jeep Tour (I highly recommend it) that took us on top of the red rocks and gave us a scare almost as good as whitewater rafting. The views were astonishing. Watching the sunset is a sport there. Everything about it is different from our  home state of Florida, except Prickly Pears. Those things must be everywhere, and in Sedona they eat them. I can't imagine anything more painful than being a Prickly Pear Picker.

My next post will be original art, I promise. Of the red rocks of Sedona, of course.

Venice, 8x10 Print

What is so intriguing as a doorway in Venice? Don't you wonder what it's like inside? The whole city is so unique and so beautiful, I hope I go back someday. This is a print of a watercolor I did a while back. I don't usually post prints, but unavoidable circumstances have taken my time, so this is what I have available to post. I don't usually post a print, but my time is even scarcer than usual, so here is a signed print of a watercolor. I love this peaceful scene. Although I live at the beach, there is nothing quite like the turquoise calm at a beach in the Bahamas.

This is two paintings in one. Rightside up, it is an ocean scene. Turn it upside down, it is whitewater in a river. I am feeling very original today. This can be set on a little easel, or if framed, put two hooks on the back of the frame, and you have an absolutely unique work of art. What fun!

I call this "Waiting Pear" because I drew it in a period of stress and waiting. This Zen form of expression did help soothe me a bit. It is matted to an 8x10 size in a gray mat.

Doesn't it look like the two birds on the right are gossiping about the other one? Though the birds are white, the side nearest the viewer was in deep shadow on a bright sunny day, so I made liberal use of blues and purples.

I Like Big Birds and I Cannot Lie, 8x10 Pen and Ink

I enjoy these zentangle-inspired drawings, though they are pretty time-consuming. There is something meditative about all those patterns. This past couple of years I have undertaken new techniques and adventures; doing collage, zentangle, and now I am working on a Mystery Build project with Cindy Michaud which we will unveil later this year. Mystery Build is an online competition that is completely unique. Stay tuned.
