I'm off an an abstract tangent now. I wanted motion in this one, and I think I got it. The background is creamy white, though it may look pale yellow on some monitors.

This all started with a tube of gold metallic paint from Ralph's Art Supply in Melbourne. I needed an exotic subject so I could use the gold. You can't really appreciate the metallic quality looking at it online, but I used it in the medallion on the turban, the earring, and the cloth on her shoulder. I liked the result so much that I'm going to do more.

I went to the beach on a fine Spring day, and after a hard Florida winter (ha ha), everyone had the same idea. The water was this incredible turquoise color and the whole atmosphere was just exhilarating. I am so lucky to live here.

The Depths, 7x5 Acrylic

I could have called this Abyss but The Depths sounds much friendlier. The word Abyss seems to imply a one-way trip, not the invitation to adventure in turquoise waters that I am trying to portray.

I toyed with the idea of calling this "Oh, What a Tangled Web We Weave." I find it a lot harder to title abstract paintings, though some of them are easier than others. I can't get enough of that bright turquoise color. Makes me think of when I lived in Bermuda, where the water is that color and didn't even look real at times.

Had to loosen it up a bit after the previous post. This is acrylic paint and glue, truly mixed media. For some reason "Far out, Dude" keeps running through my head when I look at this one. Maybe it reminds me of a lava lamp.

Stormy Deep, 6x6 Abstract

I've stepped way outside my comfort zone to do this one, and I'm so excited about it that I'm going to do more. The first thing I thought of was deep water in a storm off Bermuda, where I used to live. What a contrast to the misty grey scene I photographed at our beach in Florida the other day. It was beautiful in its own way too.

This is poured acrylic over stamped gold gesso, and the title is a nod to the internet, because of the most amazing coincidence this week. In our painting group, when it's someone's birthday, that person brings the cake. This keeps it simple. This week I brought a pineapple upside-down cake for my birthday (more about that later), and Carol Schiff gave me a birthday card that I immediately recognized as being made by my niece, Marta Pelrine-Bacon. Carol's cousin bought a set of the cards on the internet and sent them to Carol, who gave me one for my birthday, having no idea I was related to the artist who made the card. What are the odds?

I wrote to my niece, who has had serious health problems lately, and saw that she was having a big craving the same day for pineapple upside-down cake!  Again, what are the odds?

Serenity, 11x14

I don't usually post a print, but my time is even scarcer than usual, so here is a signed print of a watercolor. I love this peaceful scene. Although I live at the beach, there is nothing quite like the turquoise calm at a beach in the Bahamas.

This is two paintings in one. Rightside up, it is an ocean scene. Turn it upside down, it is whitewater in a river. I am feeling very original today. This can be set on a little easel, or if framed, put two hooks on the back of the frame, and you have an absolutely unique work of art. What fun!

On Da Beach, 6x6 Oil on Canvas Board

I have done this scene before in watercolor, and no matter what I do it doesn't look real; however, this is exactly the way it looks. I can't help it, I am not going to dull it down, though it is unbelievably vivid. This is at a restaurant called "On Da Beach," and oh my goodness, the coconut pie...but I digress.

This place is on Elbow Cay in the Abacos Islands, Bahamas. It is an unbelievably beautiful place, and  all you folks up north in the cold and the snow, .this is for you. Just visualize yourselves there, eating the coconut pie while the sun warms your skin and the island breezes blow...ahhh.

Homage to Hokusai, 8x10 Oil on Canvas Board

This is a nod to the great Japanese artist Hokusai, who created The Great Wave of Kanagawa in the 1800s. There have been as many reproductions of The Great Wave as there have been of the Smiley Face. This was the second in my series exhibited at the "Agua" show in Melbourne, Florida.

Tossed, 8x10 Oil on Gessoboard

This painting was one of three recently displayed at the Egad! Art Lab's "Agua" exhibit in Melbourne, Florida. It's quite a departure from my usual work and was a lot of fun to do. I simply called it "Tossed," but my mind kept saying, "Don't Throw Out the Baby With the Bathwater."

I went to a little wharf at Cape Porpoise in Maine and painted this scene. It had all the usual challenges, including changing light and moving boats. I'm always surprised when I get indoors and look at the actual colors I put down. They never look like they did outside.

Farmers Market, 12x4

When I go to this market I usually spend a little and get all I can carry away. There's nothing better than local produce. I have included my first YouTube video of my process. My first Lesson Learned: use a more square format painting for video. My painting is wider than the video shows.
