There are so many interesting characters in Alaska. This man was a Llama Keeper, and he had an air of mystery about him. I mean, really? Llama keeper in Alaska?

I took a photo of the man in the year when we drove around the United States. From Seattle we went to Alaska and stayed with my cousins Bill and Louise. It was another world. Visiting glaciers, Iditarod dogs, camping in Seward, picking blueberries in Denali Park. Very different from the Space Coast of Florida. I had to sleep in a sleep mask because it was still daylight at midnight. That will seriously mess you up.

How sad that Amy Winehouse died before producing more great music. I never tire of listening to her while I'm painting, and I was so hoping she'd get better and do more albums.

From my series, On a Cellular Level: This man exudes confidence, but I guess that's the suit; he seems to have a death grip on the phone, so maybe he's a bit tense. Will the deal go through? Did he get the promotion?

Spotted Cup, 8x10

This is an homage to Georges Seurat, a post-impressionist-neo-impressionist--oh, to heck with all those labels, the man is best known for painting in dots. This was my painting group's challenge this week. I have to say that I feel a little seasick when I look at the lower left corner, but that's just me. This was so much fun, and next time I'll use acrylics so the colors moosh together a bit less.

When I go to this market I usually spend a little and get all I can carry away. There's nothing better than local produce. I have included my first YouTube video of my process. My first Lesson Learned: use a more square format painting for video. My painting is wider than the video shows.

I read online that artist Carol Marine challenged herself to do a painting using one color for each stroke, so I decided to try it. It was challenging and messy, but I was really happy with the result.
