Provence Biker, 8x10 Original Oil Painting of the South of France

My sister and I were on our way to Fontaine-de-Vaucluse in Provence when we saw this man on his bike. Except for the very narrow roads, this is a beautiful place to be riding, surrounded by olive groves, vineyards and lavender fields. Though I have many photos of Italy, France and Austria, I just couldn't wait to paint this guy.

Tahiti Beach, Elbow Cay, Abacos Islands, 6x8 Oil on Canvas Panel

This is one of the most beautiful places I've been. When you're there it feels like a dream. The water is so clear and the sand is so white. This is an original oil painting, 8x6 inches, signed and ready to frame.

Waterfall, 11x14 Oil on Canvas, Smoky Mountain Landscape Painting

It's amazing what you can find a few steps off the road in the Smokies. This was a magical place, with mossy green rocks and falling water. I love my home at the beach, but those mountains call to me now and then. This is a signed original, ready to frame.

Koi Pond, 12x12 Oil Painting on Canvas, Wildlife Art

I am very into painting on black right now. What has inspired me? Ralph's Art Supply had a big sale on black canvases! That is very inspiring. I had forgotten how much fun it is to do a dramatic painting, and I can't wait to do the next one.

Beach Paradise, Oil Painting on Canvas Panel, 9x6 Seascape Daily Painting

I'm running out of titles for these beach scenes. How many ways can you describe such a beautiful place? I worked on this while getting windows installed and pavers put down in the driveway. My easel was really the only place I could be out of the way, so the drills were drilling and the saws were sawing, and I pretended I was back on North Captiva Island listening to the sound of the Laughing Gulls.

Hot Air Balloons, 8x10 Original Oil Painting, Skyscape on Canvas

I decided I wanted to just paint clouds. When I was done it looked like it needed something more, so I added hot air balloons to punch it up. I'm happy with the result, but I think the balloonists had better head home, because the weather doesn't look so good.

View from SquidLips, 8x10 Oil on Canvas Panel, Florida Scene

This is the view from a popular restaurant, looking at the Indian River Lagoon right beside the Eau Gallie Causeway in Melbourne, Florida. This was a very pleasant day with my painting buddies. We get somewhat scattered in the summertime, but we paint together faithfully when we are here. Next week we are making a trek to Bok Tower in Central Florida. I painted the below painting a long time ago from a visit to Bok Tower. I grew up near there and wrote a memoir called Crackers and Oranges about my childhood. It was a different time in what we now call "Old Florida." It was before Disney, and the three big attractions were Bok Tower, Silver Springs, and Cypress Gardens, which is now Legoland. Pretty tame compared to the behemoths that are tourist attractions in Orlando these days.

Morning Has Come, 8x10 Oil on Panel Seascape Sunrise

We have spectacular sunrises here on the Space Coast of Florida. Our skies seem to get every possible color, and I even enjoy it when there is a big storm off the coast and the colors are very gray. The excitement of what the clouds are doing makes up for the lack of color in that situation. This particular morning no color was lacking, and I have tried to capture them all.

I'm trying to be more colorful after studying with Elio Camacho last week. Here is my journal page after his workshop. Those little things are shrimp; if I put in every shrimp we ate there would be no room for Elio's big dog. Seafood on Amelia Island...yum!
