Florida sunrises are amazing, and seem even more so during thunderstorm season. We get all sorts of weather phenomena this time of year, and the rain is a welcome relief from the awful heat. Our pool was 90 degrees the other day, but after the rains it is 80 degrees. A big difference!

The beach makes me happy. It is a place to escape hectic everyday life, and especially the constant yammering of politics (shiver). I've always marveled that I can walk from the noisy, busy highway, over the crossover, and down to the beach, and I only hear the pleasant sounds of the ocean. 

There's nothing more beautiful than the way the ocean refuses to stop kissing the shoreline, no matter how many times it's sent away.

We have spectacular sunrises here on the Space Coast of Florida. Our skies seem to get every possible color, and I even enjoy it when there is a big storm off the coast and the colors are very gray. The excitement of what the clouds are doing makes up for the lack of color in that situation. This particular morning no color was lacking, and I have tried to capture them all.

I'm trying to be more colorful after studying with Elio Camacho last week. Here is my journal page after his workshop. Those little things are shrimp; if I put in every shrimp we ate there would be no room for Elio's big dog. Seafood on Amelia Island...yum!

Sunrises in Florida are glorious. The blues, purples and golds are astonishing, and I tried to capture that in this painting. This bird was just ambling along, looking for breakfast and enjoying another beautiful day by the sea. Need I mention that sunsets in Florida are also glorious?

When clouds are on the horizon at dawn, the sunrise is always beautiful. It's one of the nice things about living so close to the beach. When I'm photographing a sunrise it always amazes me how fast the light and the colors change.

I love the dramatic skies we get here. Sunrises are especially fantastic. There is a lot to appreciate about living on the Space Coast of Florida.

This was especially difficult to photograph, and I am still not completely satisfied, but this is the closest I could get. The blue part actually looks darker in the painting, and the bright part brighter. I was very happy with the dramatic effect.

Some sunrises are "quieter" than others. This one was very soft, but that's because I just didn't get there in time for the bright reds of early morning. I like the softer side of sunrise too.

"If you want to be reminded of the love of the Lord, just watch the sunrise."

That quotation is from Jeanette Walls, who wrote Glass Castles. Every whiny, demanding child should be made to read Glass Castles, about Ms Walls' childhood, to make them see how good they have it. It's a terrific book and one of those that sticks in my memory. With my memory lately, it takes a really good book to to linger in there for long.
