Repose, 24 x 20, after Sargent





I went into the archives for this one. I painted this copy of a John Singer Sargent painting as a learning exercise. The original is hanging in the National Gallery of Art in Washington DC. This one is hanging over my fireplace, which is also fake (I live in Florida).

    It's infinitely more real than a print of his work. The fire place on the other hand, now that's just silly. ;)

    Copying the masters is one of the best learning tools ever! And I love what Sargent could say with a single brush stroke. I really like the neutral palette on this one too.
